Hospice Foundation of America Earns a Four-Star Rating From Charity Navigator
WASHINGTON, DC—The Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) is proud to announce it has earned a Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest independent charity evaluator. The rating recognizes HFA for demonstrating strong financial health and accountability and designates the organization as an official “Give with Confidence” charity.
Charity Navigator evaluates more than 240,000 nonprofit organizations using a comprehensive assessment that extends beyond financial performance. Its evaluation examines four key areas of nonprofit health and effectiveness: Leadership & Planning, Accountability & Finance, Culture & Compensation, and Impact & Measurement. Charity Navigator has served as a resource for millions of donors seeking information to help guide their charitable giving since 2001.
“This recognition reflects HFA’s longstanding commitment to responsible stewardship and to using donor support to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients facing the end of life and their families and loved ones,” said Amy S. Tucci, HFA President & CEO. “For more than 40 years, HFA has worked to improve the quality of hospice and bereavement care through professional education, public education, research, and resources for people facing end-of-life and grief. We are grateful to our donors, members, partners, and supporters who make this work possible.”
Founded in 1982 by pioneers of the U.S. hospice movement, HFA is now in its fifth decade of service supporting patients and families, hospice and bereavement professionals, and communities through a broad range of programs and resources. The organization provides expert-led continuing education for end-of-life care professionals; publishes educational and bereavement resources; offers free guidance through its Ask an Expert service; conducts research and community-based initiatives focused on advance care planning and end-of-life care; and develops resources to strengthen bereavement support. Its Journeys bereavement newsletter provides support to tens of thousands of individuals each month.
An independent audit of HFA’s finances reports that 95 cents of every dollar donated goes directly toward improving hospice and bereavement care knowledge and practice in the U.S. “HFA is deeply committed to ensuring that people have access to reliable information and compassionate support when facing serious illness, end-of-life decisions, and grief,” Tucci said. “This Four-Star Rating provides donors with additional assurance that their support is helping advance that mission.”
