The presentation provides an overview of pediatric palliative and hospice care, including the history and differences between the two levels of care. It explores the definition and practical application of concurrent care legislation and its impact on children and families, as well as the challenges and barriers that influence timing of pediatric concurrent referrals. In addition, the program provides recommendations for structural and staffing components to consider when forming a pediatric hospice program, and explores specialty considerations in caring for pediatric patients, such as those related to medications and special family, ethical, legal, and grief issues.
