Brian de Vries is professor emeritus of gerontology at San Francisco State University with an adjunct appointment at Simon Fraser University (in Vancouver). He is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA), past Board member of the American Society on Aging (ASA), and former co-chair of the LGBTQ Aging Issues Network constituent group. de Vries was appointed to the Institute of Medicine’s Board on the Health of Select Populations Committee which authored the influential book, The Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People: Building a Foundation for Better Understanding. He has co-edited several professional journals and acclaimed academic books as well as authored or co-authored over 125 journal articles and book chapters, and has given over 200 presentations to local, national and international professional audiences on the social and psychological well-being of midlife and older LGBTQ persons, among other topics.
