Hospice Foundation of America Warned of Scam Fundraiser
WASHINGTON – Hospice Foundation of America, Inc. (HFA) has been notified that an individual is fraudulently using HFA’s name to solicit donations. Hospice Foundation of America has reported the information to law enforcement.
“Hospice Foundation of America will never call you, email you, or use the U.S. Postal Service to ask you for a donation,” said Amy Tucci, HFA’s president and CEO. “All donations to HFA are made without solicitation.”
Hospice Foundation of America received notice from a person that he had been contacted by an individual holding himself out to be an HFA representative and had been asked to make a donation to the organization. The recipient of the call was suspicious, did not donate, and reported the incident to HFA. Further investigation by HFA confirmed that the caller was indeed falsely using HFA’s name. HFA urges the public to use caution when donating to any organization.
“If you receive a call from someone saying that they are raising money or seeking contributions for Hospice Foundation of America, please do not give your credit card number or agree to mail a check,” Tucci said. “We are asking people who may be targeted to collect as much information as they can, including the phone number and caller ID of the caller asking for a donation, and to report that information to local, state or federal law enforcement.”
Hospice Foundation of America, Inc. founded in 1982, is a non-profit charitable organization that educates the public and professionals about hospice care and grief and conducts research to improve end-of-life care in the United States.
