New On-Demand Courses Available from Hospice Foundation of America
WASHINGTON — Hospice and grief professionals can improve their knowledge at any time using Hospice Foundation of America’s (HFA’s) convenient self-study courses, which can be accessed on demand through a laptop, smart phone, tablet, or desk-top computer.
“Hospice and grief professionals have busy, unpredictable schedules that don’t always align with our popular live programming,” said Amy Tucci, HFA’s president. “For those reasons, we’ve made our courses accessible 24-7 from a variety of devices.”
HFA’s on-demand and self-study courses include the same great content as its live programs and the opportunity for continuing education credit that many hospice and bereavement professionals require to keep their licensing current. The online presentations feature experienced professionals offering their expertise on the topic.
HFA’s educational programming is made possible with the generous support of Dignity Memorial. Newly released 90-minute self-study courses sponsored by Dignity Memorial include:
Exploring the Opportunity of Tissue Donation for Hospice Patients: Experts Lara S. Moretti, LSW, FT and Jennifer McKenna, BS, CTBS, of Gift of Life Donor Program explain how tissue transplants can restore a meaningful quality of life and even be lifesaving. Tissue transplants are only possible because of the generosity of donors and their families who make the decision to donate tissues such as corneas, skin, bone, heart valves and vessels. While organ donation is not feasible for hospice patients, tissue donation following death may provide meaning-making and legacy building opportunities.
Dignity Therapy: Honoring a Patient’s Life Story and Legacy: Renowned clinicians Dr. Harvey Max Chochinov and Dr. Susan Bluck explain their work and research focusing on how using Dignity Therapy can help patients examine how they narrate their life and legacy while providing communion with others, the opportunity to make meaning of challenging events, and a sense of purpose.
Key Considerations for Working with Survivors of Suicide Loss: Joanne Harpel, MPhil, CT, JD, President of Coping After Suicide, discusses the most prevalent grief reactions of suicide loss survivors; how suicide bereavement is similar yet different from other traumatic loss; how suicide loss may affect family systems; and strategies for effective grief support. This program is moderated by Dr. Jillian Blueford, a Clinical Assistant Professor for the school counseling program at the University of Denver, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado, and Certified Thanatologist.
