Live on February 20, 2018 Noon to 1:30 PM EST
WASHINGTON, February 2 -- Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) kicks off the new year with its first live webinar of 2018
, Current Issues in Pain Management & End of Life Care,
on February 20.
The 90-minute webinar will use a case study approach to address pain management at the end of life, including issues surrounding the use of opioids, communication with patients and families, regulations, policy implications, and drug monitoring systems.
Current Issues in Pain Management and End-of-Life Care
will be presented by Marian Grant, DNP, RN, CRNP and Hank Willner, MD. Dr. Grant is Director of Policy and Professional Engagement at the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC), and Dr. Willner is Chief Medical Director and Palliative Care Consultant at Holy Cross Home Care and Hospice and medical consultant to HFA.
“Caring for hospice patients with challenging pain has recently become even more complicated by the increase in opioid abuse and new policies that address that issue. This webinar will review several complex hospice pain cases and discuss how to balance concerns for opioid abuse with optimal pain management,” Grant said.
Learning objectives for the program include:
Discuss assessment and management for challenging pain cases
List key state and federal policies and guidelines regarding opioid use and abuse
List key hospice assessment and management activities for patients at risk of opioid abuse
“Safe and effective pain control is the hallmark of excellent hospice care,” Willner said.
The program will be moderated by JoAnne Reifsnyder, PhD, MSN, MBA, FAAN, Executive Vice President, Clinical Operations and Chief Nursing Officer for Genesis, who is a member of HFA’s Board of Directors.
The program will also be available on demand starting on February 21 for those unable to participate in the live program.
