24th Annual Living With Grief®: When Grief is Complicated

WASHINGTON, March 8 -- Hospice Foundation of America will release When Grief is Complicated, the 24th annual Living With Grief® program, on Thursday, April 27. The two-hour presentation will discuss complicated grief, a form of grief that socially and physically impairs those who it affects. Site registration is currently open, and continuing education credits are available for a wide range of professional boards.

Most grievers can cope with loss and grief, eventually returning to their social and workplace roles. Yet about 7 to 20 percent of individuals experiencing grief face more disabling reactions, or complicated grief, which can lead to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, and even physical illness. When Grief is Complicated will outline the nature of complicated grief and describe different ways of supporting grievers affected by it, all of which will be contextualized through panelist discussions and video interviews with individuals suffering from complicated grief.

When Grief is Complicated is moderated by Frank Sesno, a former CNN anchor and Director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University. The program features three panelists, all of whom are distinguished experts on grief. Kenneth J. Doka, PhD, MDiv, is a senior consultant to HFA, a professor of gerontology at the Graduate School of The College of New Rochelle, and has served as a Living With Grief® panelists for 22 years. Robert A. Neimeyer, PhD, is a clinical psychologist, professor of Psychology at the University of Memphis, and the author of 500 articles and book chapters. Therese A. Rando, PhD, BCETS, BCBT, is a clinical psychologist, thanatologist, and traumatologist as well as the Clinical Director of The Institute for the Study of Treatment of Loss.
