Dignity Therapy Webinar Receives Excellent Reviews from Large Audience
WASHINGTON, Feb. 23 -- More than 390 health and social service professionals participated on Tuesday in a live webinar on Dignity Therapy, a specialized, individualized, and evidence-based form of psychotherapy, intended to enrich the life of those diagnosed with a life-limiting illness.
The program was presented by Lori Montross-Thomas, PhD, one of 75 professionals certified in Dignity Therapy in the United States.
Speaking of her Dignity Therapy work, Montross-Thomas asks: “People matter; the details of their lives matter…how do we enrich that sense of them as people, not just patients?”
Dignity Therapy is accomplished through interviews by a trained counselor. Questions like “When did you feel most alive?” are posed, prompting story-telling, and these stories are transcribed, edited, and compiled into a legacy document for the individual.
Montross-Thomas also suggested ways that Dignity Therapy practices could be incorporated into care practices in a less formal manner.
Webinar attendees gave Montross-Thomas and the webinar content high marks on post-event surveys. “Excellent presentation; important and useful information,” one attendee said. “Very good use of research, case studies, and experience,” another commented.
All live webinar participants described Montross-Thomas as highly knowledgeable and responsive to questions following her presentation, which are included in the on-demand webinar.
The Dignity Therapy webinar is currently available through the Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) at hospicefoundation.org, where both organizations and individuals can register for the program.
Continuing Education credits are $7 in addition to the price of the webinar, and a full list of board approvals can be found

HFA, which presents webinars on a variety of end-of-life topics each year, has defined itself as a reliable and innovative source for continuing education programs related to hospice, grief, and other aspects of end-of-life care.
