Read the full text of HFA's Privacy Policy. ---------------------------------- Ninety percent of Americans, if faced with a terminal illness, would prefer to be cared for and die in their homes, according to a Gallup Poll. They want to be kept comfortable, alert, and free from pain, surrounded by loved ones, and given emotional and spiritual support. These wishes describe what hospice provided to more than one half million people last year. Yet studies also show that many Americans do not know about hospice, or learn about hospice too late to receive its full benefits. Hospice Foundation of America is dedicated to promoting the hospice philosophy of care and expanding the use of hospice. Whether you work in hospice, provide support and care to anyone experiencing serious illness and loss, or are a consumer interested in learning more about end-of-life issues, HFA has resources to help you educate yourself and others about the hospice option. Learn more about hospice care. Read articles about the benefits that hospice can offer. Download a free copy of our "Choosing Hospice" brochure (PDF). -------------------------- HFA's initiative for the year 2001 is focusing on Caregiving and Loss. Our newest book, with a foreword by Rosalynn Carter, has just been published. Edited by Kenneth J. Doka and Joyce D. Davidson, the book contains articles by nationally-known experts such as Beth Witrogen McLeod and Carol Levine, as well as Voice pieces contributed by family caregivers. The book also contains a comprehensive Resource Listing. Rosalynn Carter wrote, "We must all recognize and celebrate the crucial role of family caregivers in our society, and empower the professionals to respond with increased awareness, compassion, and support." Read the full text of Mrs. Carter's foreword and to see a Table of Contents for the book. HFA's 8th annual live-via-satellite teleconference, Caregiving and Loss: Family Needs, Professional Responses, will be broadcast on April 18.
