Carols Torres, Nicole Alston, and Robert Neimeyer address a not uncommon but often neglected and disenfranchised loss in adolescence - that of perinatal loss. The authors recognize that multiple challenges that adolescent mothers experience in a perinatal loss. They compare the perinatal loss of an adolescent to that of an adult. While noting many commonalities, the authors recognize the stigma of the adolescent unwed mother that discourages support. They also acknowledge this as a non-finite loss, one that is ongoing as the adolescent constantly reconstructs "what could have been."
